As a victim of child abuse by a PO when I was 7 years old I know exactly what you are talking about. One point I would like to bring out is as a child you are taught to show absolute respect for adults in the congregation. With out question no matter what they did to you and the fear a child had towards them you always had in the back of your mind you can not say anything because you had to respect them. I hope I said this right so all can understand. This is very hard for me to explain. This is to me one of the biggest problems there is. Thanks flipper for letting me voicing this. Still Totally ADD

WT Society Creates the Atmosphere which Spawns Child Abuse in Congregations
by flipper inbeen thinking about this lately after almost 14 years out of the jw cult myself.
when you think of the language used within the jehovah's witness organization in such a closed society environment in how the wt society promotes almost absolute " trust " in the elders , the governing body, and trust even in the " friends " in the congregation themselves- is it any wonder that unscrupulous child molesters can enter any congregation pretending to be " spiritual " and take advantage of unsuspecting children or the parents ?
think about it : an individual is judged as a " spiritual " person within the jw organization based on what wt functions or duties they are good at performing.

Observations from an Ex-Elder Part 1
by doubtfull1799 ini was thinking about the fog model this morning, particularly about the "obligation" part.
my mind went back to the last elders school i went to.
one of the parts in the section on appointments was discussing how we should not place too high a bar (human standards) for brothers to try and jump over when we are considering them for appointment as a ministerial servant.

I learn the hard way like you that CO could care less about any charitable works one does in the congregation. It all about the worship of the almighty hours spent out in field service. You could be the biggest SOB alive but if you have high hours you are great and wonderful. Worthy of CA parts or demo. I came to loathe this thinking. Thank-you for bringing out this information. My awkward elders hearing
by Andamormonjustbelieves ini was baptized when i was 14 years old.
i hadn't had any real relationship with a girl up to that point.
but when i started going to high school i learnt the joys of experimenting with girls, so i did not stay a faithful member of the congregation for long.

I remember as a elder during a JC the other two elders started with very personal questions like you went through. I stop the meeting and ask the person they was questioning to leave the room. After that person was gone I read those two elders the riot act. After that they keep their mouths shut for the most part. Needless to say they did not care much for me after that. Sorry for what you went through. If you was 16 at the time why was'nt one of your parents there? I just say that maybe those assholes would not have been so personal in the questioning. Again welcome to this board and good luck to you. Still Totally ADD

Welcome doubtful 1799. Better late than never. I served as an elder for 25 years. I was the PO when I woke up. The last meeting I went to was in Jan. 2011. I say all this because I was 56 at the time. Like me you may be wondering what took me so long? This should show us we are all different when it comes to waking up. And what is interesting is what things cause us to wake up. Yours was teachings, mind was why did the wt have so many buildings in Brooklyn and was just maintaining them. I know the answer to that question now but then I did not think of the wt as a money making religion. All I am saying is don't beat yourself up over waking up later in life. Enjoyed your story and looking forward to more of your story. Take care. Still Totally ADD

Bethel Library moving to Warwick, are older items 'vanishing'
by Lostandfound inin a post re dates etc from fatfreek reference was made to huge library at bethel with items dating back to pastor rs day.
like the year 1975 which has vanished from wt theology, are gb using move to let them put all old and inconvenient items into some sort of cold storage and off library shelves.
already the revelation book has gone from the orgs website, and that was quite recent relatively, we studied it 3 times at congregation book study, yet now, like type and antitype it mysteriously was never there.

I remember when I was doing temp. work at bethel and was starting to wake up there was a post that said the Wt. Maz. Still had the cross on the front cover up to 1943 or 1944. This was a test for me to see what was being said on this site was true. So one evening I went to their library and found the row with all the Wt. volumes. Guess what I found? What was brought out here was true. This was important information for me because I was taught the Wt. stop using the cross around 1920 or so. I agree it does not matter much what the Borg does with the old literature after we are all long gone they will keep changing their teachings. But it sure help me to see the light. Still Totally ADD

The true cost of being raised as a witness
by stuckinarut2 inhow do you view your upbringing as a witness?.
most of us who were raised as witnesses would appreciate that some aspects of our upbringing were ok. a foundation and measure of stability came with it.. but, it struck me too, that we also lost so very much!
and we lost a lot of potential.. by this i mean, we need to look at not just what we lost, or what was deprived of us, but what that ended up costing us as adults into the future.. if i take $10 from you, you have lost just $10.. but, if you were going to use that $10 to buy something that would end up earning you $1000, then i actually took $1000 from you!.

Both my parents were true blue JW. My Dad was the real hard nose. I would have other witnesses tell me how lucky I was having parents like I had. Yes I was very lucky, almost total isolation from everyone, so called worldly relatives, kids I went to school with, even those in the congregation they thought was bad association. It was a strick us against them regime. Of course PO, CO and DO where gods to be worship. This all lead at the age of seven molested and almost murdered by our PO at the time. This caused decades of depression and anxiety. At the age of 52 I finally got help. You should have seen how many of our so called friends looked down on me for doing that. It truly was my awaking. At 62 I have to live with all my mistakes I made in my life. Thank goodness I have had a great wonderful wife who has stuck with me through thick and thin. Come to think of it that was the only good thing I got out of the cult. My dear wife. To me that is priceless. Still Totally ADD

Anyone read the latest Awake (on the supernatural)?
by LoveUniHateExams injust read some of this latest awake on the org's webshite.. it begins by talking about the 'supernatural' - wizards, witches, vampires, etc.
- their popularity and why they might appeal to people.
then it goes on to state the wt belief that someone is 'behind it'.. now, i like a few horror/scary films - when i was a kid, i always actually liked being a bit scared by them, tbh.. the silence of the lambs, a nightmare on elm street (1984), the ring, the witch, the thing (1982) and a few others are all great, imo.. they are just genres and subgenres of film, that's all.

Come on guy's the best horror movie was the original Frankenstein movie in black and white. Scared the bee-gee-bers out of me when I was a kid back in the 1960's. Another good one was King Kong the 1929 version. You had to think and feel the fear. Of course the Borg thinks the Wizard of Oz is bad because it has witches in it. LOL. Still Totally ADD
